LIGHTS. CAMERA.ACTION!!!

Last night, the British Colonial Hilton was on fire with stunning models and stunning looks!

In case you missed it, last night everyone in the fashion industry came together to celebrate and give back to the community in a runway event produced by Fashion for a Cause.

FASHION FOR A CAUSE was established by Mr. Kendrick David to help to create a platform for educating the youth about HIV/AIDS in The Bahamas. Their motto is simple: LIVE. LOVE. CARE.

It was an honour for me to be amongst so many talented Bahamians. Some, I already knew, and some I was just meeting for the first time. The event was hosted by former beauty pageant winner, Jacklyn Frazer who wore custom made designs by Bahamian Designer, David Rolle. Wihle the night may have started off a bit slow, the fashion soon spoke for itself. Or at least that's what I expected.

The best way to describe the runway show was Ready to Wear (RTW). The pieces were simple at best, and very easy for anyone to wear. The looks ranged from Office Savvy to Beach Chic. The show was continuous, with no breaks. All outfits were organised in colour schemes, starting with all white.

My major concern was that most of the looks appeared to be directly "off the rack". I didn't get a handmade feeling from them. It seemed more like a promotion for local boutiques than local designers. Additionally, because of the continous flow, I was unable to identify which piece belonged to which curator. So I had no idea of knowing if the model wore a custom design or something I could buy in a store.

EDIT: Added to that, was the fact that many models literally walked the runway in underwear. There was no creativity or imagination in the choices. I was greatly disappointed in this.

Once the show ended (after about 30 minutes of actual runway) that was it. Literally. A voice came out over the speakers saying thank you for coming, and announced the location of the after party. We never saw the host again (which is probably why she gave away all of the prizes before the show started). There was no real sense of closure.

So after waiting behind the scenes for three hours before the start of the show, for a show that wasn't very long, or very good, I was pretty disappointed overall.

Other than that, the models were professional and poised. They put on a great show and brought energy to the room. For more photos and footage, check it out here!

(This is not toal coverage as the lighting made it difficult to get decent shots of everyone)
