The Ultimate Birthday Surprise

Hey everyone!

How was your Easter weekend? I’m sorry I didn’t get to share much of mine with you, but fear not, for I am back! This is the first of many posts to come this week as I have been busy! It’s back to work today, and I am not excited about it. I took a few days off last week because my boyfriend came to spend his 30th birthday with me. His visit coincided with the Easter holiday so I didn’t have to take much time off to spend with him. At the time I first started writing this post, I had just dropped him off to the airport about half an hour ago and it was definitely bittersweet.

Long distance relationships are complicated but not impossible. The distance works well at times because you have the benefits of having the person without the burden or having to see them. I know that sounds bad. What I mean is, you ever find yourself having to choose between seeing your beau and seeing your friends or family? We don’t have that problem. Don’t get me wrong, we talk EVERYDAY; that’s an absolute must. But it’s easier to accept the other person’s schedule when you can’t just drive past their house to spy on them (don’t act like you never did that).

Of course the sucky part is the obvious: we’re apart. There are times when all I want in life is to be hugged by him, and I have to settle for a face and voice on a computer screen. Or when technology fails us so we can’t talk. But this past week I had him all to myself. It was great. We fell asleep together and woke up together. We went out together, ate together, played games together (you get it). For one whole week I had my boyfriend back. Which means, I finally got to cook for him like I wanted to, and I learned a lot about where I could improve. (It wasn’t so much what he said, but what he didn’t say). I’ll share those recipes starting tomorrow. I miss him like crazy now, but he didn’t leave without an awesome birthday surprise!

The whole week he thought I didn’t plan anything for him. He was a little bummed because we spent most of the week just sitting around the house. So when Saturday rolled around, I took him downtown (mainly to kill time) but also to show him our Straw Market so that he could pick up some souvenirs. We walked around, went on a guided tour in the Pompey Museum (which use to be an actual slave auction site), and turned down about 5 offers to go on a glass bottom boat.

Then, we stopped to get a conch snack and tropical conch salad before going to my best friend Amanda’s house for his birthday surprise.

Can you guess what the surprise was?

Thanks to DatingDivas.com, I was able to surprise him with a live, home version of the Amazing Race. He was so shocked! I am a huge amazing race fan! Oddly enough, we had just watched an episode the night before and I asked him if he ever thought we could do something like that. He was adamant that we'd break up if we ever had to compete in a race like that. So we laughed so hard when he learned I had planned this for us, and even harder when we didn't fight or argue once, worked together, (didn't break up) and most importantly, WE WON! First prize was a chocolate rum cake, which I gave to Amanda for being so helpful. We're both very competitive so we're happy we won. I promise I didn't cheat. I had my friend Amanda arrange the rest so I was still a little blinded.

We raced against two couples I'm friends with (the couple in the middle is married). You can click on that link above, or right here, to get the digital copy of everything you'll need. I also added two clues of my own because there were some activities we just couldn't do. I've included a hilarious video of us completing the first task.

We had a blast! I think this is one birthday he will never forget! Download your copy so you can plan an awesome date night party of your own!
