Eggnog French Toast

I'm actually writing this post in the middle of family dinner. That's probably bad of me, but it's an informal setting, so I should be fine. Right? Otherwise how would you get this delicious recipe?! As you all know, I LOVE Egg Nog! But this year, can you believe, I didn't have the first taste of egg nog until yesterday? I was actually starting to get a little depressed about my lack of nog. Other than health reasons, I really can't understand why anyone would not like egg nog.

It does make an excellent coffee cream, and a great ingredient in desserts. Plus, it just tastes like Christmas when you bake a pan of french toast with it, with the added bonus of making your house smell amazing.

This is the perfect make ahead breakfast for Holiday guests. It takes about 5 minutes to put together, cover it and let it sit over night and in the morning all you have to do is throw it (figuratively, of course) in the oven and sit back and watch the wonder and amazement on the faces of your guest that you pull off something so tasty without even breaking a sweat. What? Don't believe me? Try this recipe for yourself and tell me!

Eggnog French Toast Bake

Ingredients

  • 6 slices wheat bread cut into 2 inch cubes

  • 2 cups eggnog

  • 3 eggs

  • 1/3 cup brown sugar

  • ½ tsp nutmeg

Instructions

  • Arrange the bread cubes in a small square baking pan.

  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the remaining ingredients. Pour over the bread, toss lightly to coat.

  • Cover and refrigerate for at least 3 hours, and up to 24 (I recommend refrigerating overnight).

  • Preheat oven to 350. Bake french toast uncovered for 35 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm.

Merry Christmas Everyone!
