Ladies, we all know how tough it is to have natural hair (actually any kind of hair for that matter). But one of the best things we can do for our hair is to moisturise. This is something I struggle with the most ever since going natural last year. I can never figure out the right balance of moisture for my hair. And tropical weather isn't always tropical. Sometimes our weather can be bisexual, not even bipolar; seeing degree shifts within a 10-15 degree range at least 4 times a day. And I know up north the weather is in the negatives. Ouch! So is your natural hair suffering in this weather? I know mine is. So today I'm going to share this little beauty tip I stumbled upon last night. When going out on a quick errand, try this method to keep hair moisturized. When you get home, your hair should be soft and not at all dry or hard. I'm leaving mine in all weekend. This style is also perfect for lazy days.

So whether you don't have time to do your hair, or you just want to protect your hair from the winter weather, this style will work for you. I'm going to show you how to do a deep conditioning on the go. Too bad I can't do my hair like this for work.

This is what my hair looked like before starting. You've gotta admit, my afro is packing a serious punch right now. The ends are still bleached from July, but it grew out a lot because my hair was actually purple after the Big Chop.

Start by applying your choice of moisturiser to wet or dry hair. Be sure that it is thick so that it doesn't run down your neck or face. And don't apply too much of it; just enough so that your hair is moisturised. I used the last of my Shea Butter Extra-Moisture Transitioner's Moisturising Milk which needed to be applied to damp hair.

At this point, you can pin your hair back to make it more compact. Put your plastic heat cap on your head. At this point you can remove your bobby pins.

Take a satin scarf or night cap and put on top of your heat cap. If you're wearing a scarf, tie it in the back to cover your heat cap. The satin scarf will also help to pretect your strands from the fabric if you're not deep conditioning with the plastic cap.

And now for the fun part! Take any fabric you like. You can pick any texture, even cotten. I chose a leftover purple linen. You'll need one other piece of fabric, something thick. On the right I originally used a scarf but when I re-did it, I used a hand towel. Roll it into a medium-sized ball and place it behind your head under the first piece of fabric. Making sure that fabric is completely concealing the ball, tie it into a knot. Take one of the ends and begin twisting it. Take that end and wrap it around your ball, tucking underneath. Repeat for the other end. This will create a beautiful bun.

There are so many variations to this style. You can skip the bun wrap and just use a beanie or skip the deep conditioning but keep the bun to protect your hair. You can sass this look up with big earrings for a hip Afro-centric look. I am definitely going to try this again. I did this Friday night and can you believe that my hair is still soft and moisturised? You've gotta try this, if you haven't already! I'm gonna keep practicing so that my head wrap game can be on point!
