How I survived my first Pole Fitness Class

Hi friends! Wow, it wasn't until after I posted all the pictures of the doughnuts from yesterday, that I realised they actually look more like bagels than doughnuts! It's kind of funny really!

Despite that, everyone seemed to like my bagel doughnuts very much. They were the perfect balance of sweet but not too sweet; and let's not forget how filling they were because of the oats. That was my first time eating blueberries and oats in a doughnut.

You know what else was a first for me yesterday?

I took a Pole Fitness class yesterday!

Now I'm no stranger to the pole (NO! Not in that way!) But I am still at a beginner's level. Here's what I mean. When I was in college, I bought my own pole. I can't remember the name brand, but I got it from Spencers for $70. It was one of those poles that had the grip for the ceiling so you didn't have to use any tools. I remember saving up for that. I thought I was going to practice day and night to get a super sexy, bombshell body that would be able to do the kinds of tricks that would have gotten me married at this point in my life.

I also remember not getting to use it much because of my hectic schedule. But before the pole died, I did learn how to do the fireman and a few dances around it. You're probably wondering how my pole died. Well, the morning of my college graduation my best friend decided to swing on it. Apparently it had shifted from use and other people touching it, so when she swung on it, it came swinging down. HARD. The grip piece was ripped and no more good. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't get the pole to stay up any more. Hence the death of my pole. And my dream to have a stripper's body. (You know before she had the three kids).

So when I saw a promotion on Facebook for Pole Fitness classes at a new studio in town for only $55 for 3 classes, I couldn't pass that up. It seemed like a really great deal and opportunity for me to get the figure I want. My dream came back to life! The place is called Girl on Pole Dance Studio. It's lead by Rapheleta (we call her Raphy) and Katie. They are some of the nicest girls ever. I would not have survived without them.

In fact, I almost didn't survive. Before the class officially started, I took a swing doing one of the moves Katey showed me and got a massive cramp in my thigh. I know, how pathetic. (Stripper dreams not looking so good at this point).

But Katey was super nice, and even helped me to stretch it out and massage the spot. They didn't give up on me and I never felt like giving up. It was such a fun atmosphere that it was easy for me to feel comfortable even if I didn't exactly feel sexy.

I have my second class today and hope to really perfect the moves we learned last night, like the extended fireman, backward bend, reverse forearm stand and something else who's name I can't remember but has my right foot hurting like hell! Here's a clip of me doing the extended fireman. I know I did it right but I still feel iffy about it.

What do you guys think? Do I have what it takes to be a professional dancer some day? Any tips for perfecting these new found skills?

XoX,

Olivia
